Dr Susan Bissett is an academic dental hygienist at Newcastle School of Dental Sciences. Her current roles include Deputy Degree Programme Director for BSc (Hons) Dental Therapy, and NIHR Oral & Dental Speciality Group lead for the Northeast and Cumbria. She is an editorial board member for British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy, and Associate Editor for International Journal of Dental Hygiene. Her research interests include intervention design and implementation; disease screening; improving access to dentistry for marginalised groups; and interprofessional working to improve health outcomes. Susan was the first dental hygienist to be awarded a NIHR Doctoral Research Fellowship (DRF), which she completed in 2019. To date, Susan has achieved £1,346,139 in research grants and fellowships, including 2 Colgate Robin Davies awards (2010 jointly awarded with Kerry Stone, and 2013).
