The Crispian Scully Research Award

The Oral and Dental Research Trust is pleased to announce the 2021 Crispian Scully Research Award

This award, in memory of Crispian Scully CBE, a long-standing Trustee of the Oral and Dental Research Trust (ODRT) and eminent clinical academic, is to support research in Special Care Dentistry – a field of oral healthcare, which Professor Scully helped advance in many, different ways and championed in his illustrious career.

Applications for the Crispian Scully Research Award are being sought to support a programme of research into the provision and outcome(s) of Special Care Dentistry in patients of all ages.

One grant is available in 2021 to dental healthcare professionals and scientists in the UK to a maximum value of £5,000. The award is not intended to cover salary costs of applicants, as a ‘top-up’ to an existing award, or to fund attendance at scientific meetings.

Applications, which should be structured, must include:

  • No more than two sides of A4 setting out the background, purpose and details of the proposed programme of research.
  • Detail and justification for the proposed expenditure, included in the 2 side application.
  • A concluding, 200-word maximum, impact statement indicating the ways in which the proposed research is anticipated to benefit patients and/or the public. This can be additional to the 2 A4 sides.

The ODRT is an NIHR non-commercial partner. As such studies funded by the ODRT are eligible for consideration for inclusion onto the NIHR Portfolio.
